About the role 

This is a Fixed Term Position until 12/04/2027

In its role as the lead agency for coordination of Victoria's maritime emergency (non-search and rescue) arrangements and the control agency for maritime-sourced oil pollution and maritime casualty emergencies, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) trains and maintains a cross-agency State Response Team (SRT) and manages a network of marine pollution response equipment across the state.

To support these functions, this position coordinates training and capability development for Victoria's SRT, liaises with DTP contractors to ensure response equipment is strategically located, accurately recorded and maintained to required standards, and delivers projects that strengthen operational preparedness and response capability.

An opportunity has arisen to backfill this position for 6 months.  During this time, the successful applicant will manage, with support from the Associate Director Marine Pollution, key projects to develop a Microsoft-based State Response Team database and establish doctrine to support the rapid activation and deployment of the SRT.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant or a related discipline would be well regarded (desirable).
• Experience working in a marine environment and an understanding of the complexities involved in working in the field environment (desirable).
• Technical understanding of marine infrastructure, including pollution assets and management (desirable).
• Certificate IV or demonstrated experience in coordination/development of training and exercise programs, preferably in a maritime environment (desirable).

Other position-specific requirements 

• Driver’s License
• Contactable and available for recall to duty within a reasonable timeframe on a 24/7 basis in the event of a significant emergency or business disruption.
• Flexibility in regard to start and finish times, albeit the specific nature of this will be subject to individual discussion and will aim to balance work and personal needs
• Be required to undertake nominated duties to support emergency coordination responsibilities during significant emergencies or security incidents. This may include performing duties at the State Control Centre or in supporting the department with its emergency management accountabilities.
• This position has a requirement to travel at short notice.
• May involve evening, public holiday or weekend work including the occasional overnight travel
• May involve occasional regional and interstate travel.
