About the role 

Part-Time Fixed-Term Opportunity until 1 February 2027

This is a 0.4 FTE opportunity, working two days per week as part of a job-sharing arrangement. Some flexibility in working days may be considered.

The Safer Roads Engineering Specialist provides expert advice on complex road safety issues, using Safe System and engineering approaches to improve road safety across Victoria. The role develops policies, programs and strategies that support safer road networks and translates best practice into practical guidance, tools and advice.

The role works closely with senior leaders, government agencies and stakeholders to deliver road safety priorities and provide high-quality advice on complex and sensitive issues. It also provides technical leadership, builds Safe System capability, leads teams effectively, and supports safe, inclusive and flexible ways of working.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Experience in policy development or program/project management in road safety, public sector policy or public health (mandatory).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Business Licensing Authority or qualifications that would enable future registration (mandatory).
  • Strong road safety policy experience, excellent communication and negotiation skills, the ability to simplify complex information, and a proven ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder partnerships.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
