About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader Safety Assurance, the role is responsible for conducting thorough on-site safety audits and inspections across ST Vic duty holders, ensuring compliance, identifying, reporting on, and recommending safety improvements.
The responsibilities of the Safety Assurance Officer will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead, plan, schedule and conduct safety audits, inspections and assurance functions to identify any areas for improvement or non-compliances and drive industry improvement.
- Review, test and evaluate existing risk management systems and work with external partners to facilitate ongoing system improvements.
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, streamlining work practices and the broader ST Vic work programs and projects.
- Identify gaps in safety management and procedural systems and prepare detailed reports regarding the outcomes of audits and inspections to provide duty holders with adequate information to develop and initiate appropriate corrective actions to improve operator safety and compliance.
- Promote and support safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.

Qualifications
Desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of safety risk management principles and experience in compliance and safety risk audit programs is highly desirable.
- Formal lead auditor qualification or similar is highly desirable.
- Marine Licence with previous experience operating vessels and/or Coxswains certificate is highly desirable.
Role Specific Requirements
- This position will require authorisations and delegated powers under relevant legislation to undertake the role.
- Driver’s License.
- Occasional travel will be required.
- Ordinary Hours of Work – This position will require occasional evening or weekend work including overnight travel.
