About the role
As the Senior Controls Assurance Advisor you’ll play a role in supporting the Manager, Compliance & Assurance in the design, development, and delivery of the DTP’s controls assurance program.
This position collaborates closely with control owners and a wide range of stakeholders to assess and test control effectiveness. It provides independent second line assurance to executive management and leadership teams, helping to strengthen governance and compliance practices across the Department. By delivering clear and actionable insights, the role supports informed decision-making and contributes to DTP’s ability to effectively manage operational and compliance risks.
This role also represents the team at meetings, forums, and committees, building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing outcomes that enhance accountability and integrity across the organisation.

Position Accountabilities
- Deliver the controls assurance program by testing and evaluating how effectively controls are designed and operating in practice.
- Provide independent assurance and clear reporting to executive management, supporting evidence-based decision-making.
- Support leaders by reviewing and assessing controls, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements to strengthen the risk and compliance environment.
- Prepare reports and insights that integrate with broader risk reporting, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, representing the Compliance and Assurance Team in key forums and committees.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing findings and supporting initiatives to improve processes and governance.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
- Demonstrated experience in an internal audit, external audit, risk management or equivalent role, including significant experience in reviewing the adequacy of controls in business processes.
- Demonstrated experience in assessing and reporting assurance issues and themes to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in producing high level management and other reports as required, with proven ability to effectively analyse, interpret and present data to various audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multiple tasks, determining priorities, and demonstrating resilience in high pressure situations.
- An appropriate tertiary qualification (degree in Commerce, Business or a related field), or significant relevant experience.
- 3+ years of operational audit or equivalent experience within a large organisation.
Desirable
- Relevant industry and other professional qualifications, e.g., CA, CPA, CIA
