About the Role

Job Location: 2 Lonsdale street, Melbourne

The Senior Data Analyst uses data analysis, statistics and machine learning to help solve complex business problems and support better decision-making across the Department. They work with large datasets to identify transport trends, develop predictive models and provide clear insights and recommendations to stakeholders and team members. The role works closely with technical leads and other staff to deliver reliable data solutions and improve analytical practices. Success in this role helps the Department make informed decisions, improve planning and deliver better outcomes for transport services and the community.

  • Can clearly explain complex information and insights to different audiences in a simple and practical way.
  • Has experience using data analysis, modelling, machine learning and reporting tools to deliver reliable solutions and insights.
  • Works well with others, builds strong relationships and supports team success through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Is adaptable, manages competing priorities well and can independently deliver projects within agreed timeframes.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant or related discipline (Mandatory).
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to apply statistical and data science techniques, including predictive modelling, to solve real-world problems and support data-driven decision-making. (Mandatory)
  • Demonstrated experience working with large and complex datasets and data products, with strong technical capability in programming languages and analytical tools such as SQL, Python, R and GIS. (Mandatory)
  • Experience working with distributed data processing frameworks and cloud-based analytics platforms (e.g. PySpark, Databricks), and familiarity with model lifecycle and experiment tracking tools (e.g. MLflow) is desirable. (Desirable)
