Investment and Technology leads and manages the investment lifecycle; drives commercial advice & negotiations to facilitate reform; and enables core delivery through Finance, Procurement & Enterprise Technology.
About the role
The role is Ongoing.The Senior Financial Analyst will sit in the Departmental Reporting and Systems team in the wider Portfolio Financial Management team in Finance and will contribute to the monthly departmental finance reporting, finance committee preparation and program budgeting and reporting.
Position accountabilities
- Provide financial and budget management to Portfolio groups and agencies and to senior management focused on ensuring that the Department has sustainable budget practices.
- Ensure the integrity of the portfolio budget information in accordance with the Financial Management Act 1994, including reconciliation of budget information and forward estimates within information systems and other data held in DTF’s SRIMS system, and working with DTF and stakeholders to update that information as required.
- Demonstrate advanced financial expertise to routinely advise/explain complex concepts, ideas and issues to senior management on complex financial issues which facilitate strategic decision making.
- Work collaboratively as a trusted adviser across the Department with group and portfolio agency business partners, utilising a strong working knowledge of DTF’s SRIMS and departmental systems
Key Selection Criteria
Success in this role requires strong expertise in Financial Management and Compliance and Management Accounting, providing high-quality advice on the financial implications of operational strategies and effectively operating financial information systems. Complex financial data is developed into clear, actionable reports to support decision-making, while ongoing monitoring and evaluation of environmental and organisational factors ensures financial outcomes and decisions are accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic objectives.
Success in this role also relies on applied skills in Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Innovation and Continuous Improvement, Strategic Planning, Stakeholder Management, and Communication with Impact. Problems are resolved through careful interpretation of existing guidelines or thoughtful analysis when guidance is lacking, with informed decisions made independently or collaboratively. Opportunities for improvement and innovation are actively pursued, aligning daily activities with organisational strategy. Strong stakeholder relationships are built through understanding needs and organisational contexts, and information is communicated clearly, concisely, and appropriately to ensure understanding and engagement.
