About the role
*This is a Fixed Term Position for 12 months*
The Senior Manager, Rolling Stock Assets leads how trains and trams are maintained, improved and managed across their full life. They work closely with operators, engineers and government teams, providing expert advice and overseeing technical decisions, performance and safety. The role influences senior stakeholders and supports operators to meet standards, resolve issues and plan future upgrades. Success means reliable, safe and efficient public transport, strong relationships across the sector, and clear, trusted advice that helps the state make informed decisions about its rolling stock assets.
What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria)
You’re someone who:
- Enjoys leading complex engineering work and improving how rolling stock is maintained, with a focus on safety, reliability and practical outcomes.
- Brings strong technical expertise in asset management and maintenance, and can apply industry standards (e.g. ISO 55000) in a real-world, operational setting.
- Can provide clear, trusted advice, analyse complex issues and solve problems in high-risk, sensitive environments.
- Leads people effectively, supports team performance and drives continuous improvement across processes and systems.
- Builds strong stakeholder relationships, communicates clearly and manages competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering or other relevant technical fields.
- Demonstrated success in managing ‘high value, high availability’ assets.
- Experience of railway operations/maintenance and the required outcomes to be achieved by fleet improvement programs.
