About the role

This is a Fixed Term Full Time Position until 8 June 2027

The Senior Planner Statutory Reform leads Victorian planning scheme amendment work, prepares briefs and recommendations for senior executives and the Minister for Planning, and supports statutory reform initiatives. The role requires strong experience in statutory planning, project delivery, stakeholder engagement and governance, with the ability to manage complex projects across public or private sectors.

The role is responsible for providing high-level strategic planning advice to the Minister and executive leadership, preparing authoritative reports and briefings, and managing complex projects in line with government standards. Key requirements include stakeholder engagement, risk management, issue resolution, collaboration across business units, cultural safety, and the ability to influence sensitive and complex planning matters effectively.

What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria)
You’re someone who:

•    Demonstrated ability to provide strategic planning advice, guide organisational priorities, and 
       contribute subject matter expertise.
•    Strong stakeholder management skills, including building partnerships, resolving complex 
       issues, and balancing competing priorities.
•    Sound understanding of political and organisational environments, with the ability to anticipate 
       impacts and support values-based decision making.
•    Excellent critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to 
       influence, present clearly, and manage sensitive matters.
•    Proven ability to work collaboratively, adapt to change, and lead innovative approaches to 
       achieve business and government outcomes.

Qualifications and experience

You’ll bring: 

•    Relevant tertiary qualification in Planning or a related field.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of the Victoria Planning Provisions and Planning and Environment 
       Act 1987, with statutory and/or strategic planning experience in government or consulting.
•    Strong understanding of government policies, processes, and strategies, particularly in 
       transport, land use, planning, regulation, and legislation.

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification.
