The Planning and Land Services Group in the Department brings together statutory planning, building policy, land, property, and heritage capability to deliver statewide services. The Group administers statutory planning responsibilities including improvements to planning system and provisions, assessing planning scheme amendments and environmental assessments and planning permits.
The State Planning Division provides development of planning policy, administration of statutory planning processes relating to planning scheme amendments, planning permit applications, and environmental impact assessments including major infrastructure project assessments and approvals and implementation of planning reform.

About the Role
Fixed term fulltime - maternity leave cover until 30 October 2026.
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking skilled professionals to join our team as Senior Planner. In this role you will provide planning assessments and advice for energy projects with a specific focus on the statutory requirements of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Victoria Planning Provisions. This includes liaising with stakeholders, negotiations with applicants, preparing assessment reports and briefs to the Minister for Planning and preparing correspondence and inputs for the department’s data and information systems.

Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in urban planning.
- Demonstrated experience in all statutory planning permit, planning scheme amendment and related processes.
- Demonstrated experience in assessing and managing complex and/or strategically significant development proposals within a Victorian state or local government context
