About the role 

This role is part of a small team that leads thinking across DTP on current and emerging issues relating to the transport system in inform departmental or Governmental policy.  The role will have a focus on transport technologies, including automated transport, artificial intelligence and other innovations. It identifies priorities and practical pathways for adapting to new technologies, considering their technical feasibility, benefits to transport and impact on the Victorian community and economy.

The role develops policy options, research and advice using specialist knowledge to influence decision-making and challenge existing thinking. It works closely with technical experts, policy teams and senior stakeholders to develop practical solutions, build support, manage timelines and ensure new technologies deliver benefits for Victoria and the transport system.

You’re someone who: 

• Develops clear, evidence-based policy options and recommendations, considering strategic priorities, community needs and broader impacts.
• Applies critical thinking to complex issues, considering multiple perspectives and developing practical, sustainable solutions.
• Builds effective stakeholder relationships and collaborates across teams to share knowledge, resolve issues and achieve outcomes.
• Communicates clearly and confidently, tailoring written, verbal and presentation styles to the audience and key messages.
• Translates strategy into well-governed projects and programs, with clear outcomes, responsibilities, monitoring and risk management.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as economics, public policy, engineering or law   (desirable)
• An understanding of transport technologies (desirable)
• Experience in developing policies and organisational directions (desirable).
