About the role 
The Senior Policy Officer leads the review and development of Victoria’s speed zoning policies, ensuring alignment with safe system principles and the Road Safety Strategy 2021–2030. The role develops evidence-based approaches to support effective speed management and safer road networks.

The position manages complex policy projects, provides expert advice to senior leaders and stakeholders, and builds strong partnerships to deliver road safety outcomes. It also provides technical expertise, supports capability development and contributes to a safe, inclusive and flexible team environment.

You’re someone who: 

• Develops evidence-based policy options and recommendations that align with strategic priorities, community needs and broader government objectives.
• Translates strategies into effective programs and projects by establishing governance, managing risks and delivering measurable outcomes.
• Applies systems thinking and future-focused approaches to understand complex environments, identify opportunities and drive improvements.
• Focuses on community impact by monitoring outcomes and ensuring policies and services deliver meaningful benefits.
• Applies road safety engineering frameworks to provide technical guidance to improve road safety
• Builds a strong culture of collaboration by partnering across teams and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

• Experience in policy development and implementation (mandatory).
• Qualifications in Engineering and/or road safety, with experience in speed management and understanding of the safe system approach to road safety (desirable).
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders (desirable).
