About the role

This is a Fixed Term Full Time role until 5th February 2027.

The Integrated Modelling Group (IMG) Senior Program Manager position sits within the Rail Planning area and is responsible for consolidating ideas generated by an expert team to inform a better understanding of how the rail network operates. This is primarily delivered through oversight of the Integrated Modelling Group (IMG). The IMG is a collaborative group of operational and modelling experts across the Department of Transport and Planning, Metro Trains Melbourne, V/Line and Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA). Its key goals are to fully understand the impacts of project and timetable changes, inform good network decisions and improve customer experiences for all Victorians.

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead complex, interrelated programs while communicating technical and operational insights with clarity and impact. Success in this role relies on strong stakeholder engagement, the capacity to integrate diverse ideas, and the analytical skills needed to solve problems and inform evidence-based decisions across the transport portfolio. We’re looking for someone who brings influential negotiation abilities, deep knowledge of Victoria’s public transport objectives, and the capability to shape modelling activities that drive reliable, customer-focused network outcomes.

Position accountabilities
The role leads the effective coordination and management of IMG activities, including providing Secretariat support for committees and planning forums. It involves collaboratively prioritising workloads, responding to requests for assistance, and working closely with partner organisations across the portfolio. A key responsibility is overseeing the assessment of future timetable concepts and ensuring modelling tools and practices are robust, efficient and up to date, enabling well-evidenced recommendations on service and infrastructure changes. 

  • Oversee the effective management of IMG activities, including the Secretariat for the IMG committees and planning meetings
  • Oversee the assessment of concept timetable plans for future projects to identify feasibility, customer, reliability and capacity considerations, and manage the development of technical papers to robustly inform recommendations around timetable and infrastructure changes.
  • Coordinate project submissions and associated assurance reviews, including use of a continuous improvement approach to assist projects to comply with IMG processes and requirements.

 

Qualifications and experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or proven extensive experience, in the field of project management, management, engineering, science or transport planning. 

Role specific requirements

  • May involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel
  • National Police Check undertaken by the department (mandatory requirement)
  • You may be required to undertake a medical and other safety compliance requirement
