About the role 

 *This is a Fixed Term Position until June 2029*  

 

The Senior Project Officer, Process Improvement leads the delivery and implementation of practical, user-centred improvements to people processes across the employee lifecycle. The role focuses on simplifying systems, policies and guidance to improve efficiency, data quality and employee and manager experience.

 

Working within established strategic and governance frameworks, the role applies structured process improvement and service design approaches to embed sustainable change, enable effective self-service, and support high-quality people outcomes for the Department.

Position accountabilities 

The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a skilled and proactive professional to lead process improvement initiatives across the employee lifecycle, driving practical solutions that enhance the efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of People and Culture services. This role plays a key part in improving how core activities such as performance and misconduct management are designed and delivered, ensuring outcomes are achieved within agreed timeframes, scope and quality standards.

 

Working across systems, processes and policies, you will apply structured process improvement and service design methodologies to develop user-centred solutions that simplify ways of working and deliver measurable benefits. You will translate complex legislative, industrial and policy requirements into clear, plain-English guidance and documentation, supporting managers and employees to navigate processes with confidence.

 

Success in this role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across People and Culture, corporate and digital teams, facilitate workshops, and influence through evidence-based advice and collaborative problem solving. You will also support change and implementation activities, embedding new approaches and delivering practical tools and resources that strengthen capability and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.

 

 

Qualifications and experience 

  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, service design or continuous improvement, ideally within human resources or corporate services environments.
  • Sound understanding of employee lifecycle processes and HR service delivery.
  • Experience reviewing and improving policies, procedures or guidance materials.
  • Tertiary qualifications in human resources, business, public administration or a related field are desirable.

Pre-employment checks and employment conditions  

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
