About the role
*This is a Fixed Term Contract until the 30/06/2027*
As the Senior Solution Architect, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the technical architecture for Victoria’s new ticketing system and real-time public transport information. You’ll ensure data is delivered accurately, securely, and seamlessly into digital channels, including the public transport app and website.
You will provide expert solution design, enable strategic outcomes, and oversee governance and approvals to ensure high-quality delivery. Working closely with Principal Architects in the Data & Digital division, you’ll deliver solutions that align with enterprise priorities such as security, infrastructure, identity, integration, and data.
This role requires strong cloud architecture capability (AWS and/or Azure) and experience delivering end-to-end solutions with vendors and program teams. As a trusted advisor, you’ll engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders, bridging business needs with IT architecture. Position accountabilities
- Lead the development and delivery of solution architecture for complex transport and digital projects, ensuring alignment with departmental strategy, enterprise architecture standards, and program objectives.
- Provide authoritative advice and advocacy on solution design, shaping outcomes that enable seamless, secure, and integrated digital services.
- Collaborate with Principal Architects, project managers, technical teams, and external vendors to address cross-functional dependencies and ensure cohesive delivery.
- Drive governance and quality assurance by securing necessary approvals at program, divisional, and departmental levels.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships across internal and external stakeholders, influencing decision-making and resolving complex challenges.
- Demonstrate leadership in cloud architecture (AWS and/or Azure), delivering solutions that are scalable, secure, and strategically aligned.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues, contributing to capability uplift and fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
- Bachelor's level qualification in computer science, engineering, information systems or similar.
- Three or more years of demonstrable experience in Solution Architecture with a minimum of two years within the enterprise system domain.
- Demonstrated experience in solution design and delivery with cloud (Azure and/or AWS), on-premises, or hybrid implementation including relevant hands-on experience.
- Demonstrated experience in influencing project or program outcomes by working with diverse sets of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in presenting and articulating solutions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
- Architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF) and/or Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure) would be highly regarded.
- Familiarity with integration and middleware solutions, Payment Gateways, web services technologies (SOAP, XML) and Enterprise Security Standards (OAuth2, SAML, LDAP, SSO, Firewall, WS-Security, PKI).
- Previous experience with solution design with API and Integration projects with demonstrable successful outcomes.
- Previous hands on development experience with some of the following: .NET, Java/ JEE, Mulesoft, Spring Boot, JavaScript, Python, PHP, XML, SOAP, REST, JSON, SAML, NodeJS and other API related technologies.
- Experience in digital transformation, apps, websites and ticketing systems.
