About the group

About the opportunity
We’re looking for a technical leader to join Vicmap Spatial Services as a Senior Spatial Data Engineer. This is a pivotal role shaping the end-to-end pipelines that deliver Victoria’s foundational spatial data — relied on by emergency services, government, industry, and the community every day.
As part of the Data and Digital Division, you’ll design, build and operate critical data engineering processes, ensuring Victoria’s spatial datasets are accurate, accessible, and continuously improving. From cloud-based DevOps practices to automation of complex ETL workflows, this is a role where your expertise will directly enhance the quality and reliability of services across the state.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design and operation of best-practice validation, ETL processes, and data lifecycle management for Vicmap.
- Deliver innovative, automated solutions that improve data quality and reduce manual handling.
- Provide expert technical advice on data models, governance and risk processes, and integration approaches.
- Mentor colleagues, fostering capability and embedding continuous improvement across the team.
- Build trusted partnerships with stakeholders, ensuring services meet the needs of government and end-users.
What you’ll bring
- Extensive experience delivering spatial data solutions in complex technical environments, with strong knowledge of PostGIS/PostgreSQL, FME or similar, and coding in Python, Javascript and SQL.
- Expertise in CI/CD practices and cloud technologies such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Bitbucket.
- A track record of leading digital innovation, improving data quality, and applying spatial data to deliver business outcomes.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to advise and influence stakeholders across technical and strategic contexts.
- An inclusive, collaborative approach with a commitment to mentoring others and building high-performing teams.
