Requisition ID:  7375
Work Type:  Ongoing Full Time
Fixed Term Period:  Not Applicable
Location:  Melbourne - CBD

About Us

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) integrates land use and transport planning to deliver a more connected, sustainable, and liveable Victoria. Within DTP, the Investment and Technology Group enables critical services through digital infrastructure, data, and innovative project delivery.

The Data and Digital Division provides enterprise-level leadership on spatial data and digital transformation. This role sits within Vicmap Spatial Services, the team responsible for defining, managing and maintaining Victoria’s foundational geospatial datasets and services.

About the Role

As a Spatial Consultant in the Data Acquisition and Contracts team, you’ll work with a wide range of public sector stakeholders to support the acquisition and delivery of high-quality geospatial data products, including imagery, elevation, and 3D data.

This is a role that combines stakeholder engagement, spatial data expertise, and operational coordination. You’ll manage and clarify stakeholder needs, contribute to project specifications and procurement processes, support cost recovery arrangements, and communicate progress clearly and confidently to partners across state and local government.

You’ll also help maintain datasets, contribute to contract oversight, and work closely with technical experts to ensure Vicmap data products continue to meet evolving customer needs.

Access the Position Description here to learn more about the role, responsibilities, and what we’re looking for.

What You’ll Bring — and Why You’ll Want to Be Here

You’re a skilled communicator who knows how to translate technical detail into clear, meaningful information for different audiences. Whether you’re writing a project brief, explaining spatial data requirements, or resolving stakeholder feedback, you bring structure, clarity and professionalism to your communication.

You understand how to build strong relationships and are comfortable navigating the complexities of government and stakeholder engagement. You know how to listen, ask the right questions, and anticipate what your stakeholders need — even if they don’t always know how to ask for it.

With experience working across spatial data or digital service delivery, you bring both subject matter understanding and the ability to make it accessible. Your ability to coordinate, clarify, and connect people and ideas is what sets you apart.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Relevant tertiary and/or industry qualifications (e.g. geoinformatics, spatial sciences, IT, computer science, engineering)
  • Experience working with or acquiring spatial data products in government
