Integrated Strategy is a Division within the Office of the Secretary, which provides oversight to policy change and operates as a policy coordination and strategy function within DTP. Integrated Strategy works with external stakeholders and across the Department to co-design policies and strategies to respond to current and future challenges.
About the role
This role is in a newly created Strategy Branch in the Integrated Strategy Division of the Department. The purpose of the Branch is to lead longer term strategy work for the Department. Reporting to the Director, the Strategy Associate will be part of a small team that together with other members of the Integrated Strategy Division will work with leaders from across DTP on high priority strategy topics identified by DTP leadership. The Strategy Associate will organise and help facilitate workshops and cross departmental engagement and lead discrete workstreams end to end encompassing problem structuring, work planning, analysis, synthesising and drafting end products.

It requires accomplished capability in project delivery, collaboration, future-focused planning, and leveraging data to support effective decision-making. Position accountabilities
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a Strategy Associate to support the development of key strategic initiatives that guide Victoria’s transport system. This role suits someone who can think analytically, write clearly and work collaboratively across a large and diverse organisation.
In this position, you will help shape the strategic agenda by working with the Strategy Director and internal stakeholders to identify priorities and contribute to the research, analysis and drafting of major strategy products. You will translate complex information into clear insights and support the delivery of high-quality documents that inform long-term planning.
The role requires strong relationship-building skills, as you will engage with stakeholders at all levels to gather input, test ideas and ensure strategy work reflects broad organisational perspectives. Your communication style will be confident and professional, helping to build trust and support constructive discussions.
You will also provide project coordination support, assisting with scheduling, progress tracking and ensuring strategic outputs are embedded effectively across the department.

Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
– Tertiary qualification or experience in an analytical or technical field (mandatory)
– Experience working with complex and disparate data sets to draw strategic insights (mandatory)
– Exposure to problem structuring and analytical approaches (mandatory)
Desirable
– Knowledge and experience in Transport and/or Planning (desirable)
