About VIDA
The Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) is a specialist project delivery organisation, responsible for delivering Victoria’s major transport, health and community safety infrastructure program.
This multi-disciplinary program includes more than 200 projects including North East Link, removing level crossings, Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1, new and upgraded hospitals, and specialist programs such as the early parenting centres expansion and upgrade program, and community safety projects for corrections and emergency services.
The unprecedented program of works brings together expert skillsets to deliver crucial health, community safety, and major transport projects, and ensures that operations are streamlined and efficient while delivering better outcomes for Victorians.
Led by the Director-General, VIDA comprises five project offices, VIDA Roads, VIDA Metro, VIDA Rail, VIDA Health and VIDA Community Safety.
VIDA is established as an Administration Office under the Public Administration Act 2004 as a specialist organisation.
About Rail Academy Newport (RAN)
Rail Academy Newport (RAN) is Victoria’s dedicated rail and infrastructure training facility, providing specialist environments where industry can build the skills needed to support Victoria’s transport network and major infrastructure projects.
Located in Newport, the facility provides practical training environments and specialist infrastructure that support training, assessment, testing and workforce development. RAN is used by rail operators, training providers, infrastructure projects, employers and industry partners.
RAN plays an important role in supporting industry capability by providing a safe, well-managed environment where people can learn, develop skills and undertake practical training.
About this Opportunity
This position supports the day-to-day operation of the Rail Academy Newport, helping ensure the training centre runs safely, efficiently and provides a positive experience for everyone who uses the facility.
Reporting to the Rail Training Centre Manager, the Support Officer will coordinate training rooms and facility access, support bookings and documentation, provide administrative and customer service support, and assist with the safe and effective operation of the site.
This is a practical, hands-on and site-based role that includes opening and closing the facility, preparing training spaces, supporting training providers and visitors, monitoring site activity and assisting with site safety, procurement and other operational processes.
The role is based at Rail Academy Newport and requires flexibility to support the operational needs of the centre, including early starts and occasional Saturday work where required.
About You
You will bring strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records. You will be practical, reliable and safety-focused, with sound judgement and the confidence to work independently. You will be a clear and respectful communicator who enjoys working with a diverse range of people and building positive working relationships. A strong customer focus will be important, along with a commitment to helping learners, trainers, contractors, visitors and colleagues to have a positive experience at the facility.
You will be adaptable and willing to learn, with basic digital and administrative capability and the willingness to develop your skills using systems such Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word and Excel.
Most importantly, you will bring a positive attitude, initiative and a willingness to learn and develop, be open to feedback and contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive workplace.
Mandatory Requirements
- Current Volunteer Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle
- Ability to undertake a Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card required for the role, including Category 3 Rail medical, Safely Access Rail Corridor and Construction Induction White Card.
- Level 2 First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain) Ability to work on-site at Rail Academy Newport outside of typical hours, including the ability to commence work as early as 6.45am and work occasional Saturdays as required.
- Ability to work rostered hours Monday – Friday (7am – 6pm), occasional Saturdays
- Ability to follow approved opening and closing procedures, with supervision and support as required.
