Title: Sustainability Adviser
Join us on Victoria’s Big Build, delivering the Victorian Government's rail infrastructure projects. To reflect our broader remit, our organisation name has changed from Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) to VIDA Rail, providing a strong link to our overarching authority, VIDA. We're excited and proud to continue the Level Crossing Removal Project, Melbourne Airport Rail and Big Build Rail projects. There's never been a better time to get amongst the action!
About the role
The Sustainability Adviser plays a key role in supporting the delivery of VIDA Rail’s Sustainability Policy and Strategy across major infrastructure programs. Working within Engineering & Program Services, you will provide both technical and administrative support to ensure sustainability initiatives are embedded across projects.
In this role, you will:
- Support the implementation of the Sustainability Policy and Strategic Plan across work packages
- Provide sustainability and environmental advice to project teams and senior stakeholders
- Assist projects in achieving Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) and Green Star ratings
- Coordinate sustainability forums, reporting and knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Manage sustainability data, reporting systems and insights using tools such as SharePoint and Power BI
- Prepare reports, briefs and dashboards to track performance and drive continuous improvement
The role is a 3-year fixed term position, paying a salary between $100,894 - $114,476 plus superannuation with hybrid working arrangements (a mix of CBD office and home/remote based working).
About you
You are a motivated and detail-oriented sustainability or environmental professional who enjoys working across complex projects. You bring experience supporting sustainability initiatives within construction, infrastructure or capital works environments, and are confident working with data, reporting tools and stakeholders at all levels.
Let’s get technical – what skills do we expect you to have?

- Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to track activities and meet timelines
- Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g. NGER, ISC, Green Star or similar)
- Experience using data and reporting tools such as SharePoint, Power BI or similar platforms
- Strong written and analytical skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly
- Desirable: familiarity with IS ratings, Green Star ratings or similar sustainability frameworks

What next?
To apply – just submit your CV.
No need to submit a separate address of the key selection criteria, and no need for a cover letter. Instead, we like to ask a couple of assessed questions in the application form (200 words max) to get to know you better outside of what is written on your CV.
In this instance the questions are:
- Describe your experience providing sustainability or environmental advice within a project environment.
- How have you used data or reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, SharePoint) to support decision-making?
- Tell us about a time you worked with multiple stakeholders to achieve a sustainability outcome.
After assessing your CV and answers to the above questions, the next steps of the recruitment process might include:
- a phone screen to learn more about you, and you to learn more about us
- an interview to understand more about things you have worked on in the past
Please note: the successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which include national police checks and misconduct screening.
