About the Role
The Senior Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Maintenance Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining ITS infrastructure across regional Victoria, including traffic signals, CCTV, Variable Message Signs, Freeway Data Stations, and street lighting. Reporting to the Team Leader, ITS Asset Maintenance, the role oversees the commercial and financial performance of the ITS maintenance contract, ensuring effective budget management, value delivery, and productive contractor relationships. It also involves stakeholder engagement, ensuring asset handover and commissioning meet departmental standards, and providing regular reporting on asset condition, performance, and reliability. The position contributes to planning, business case development, and strategic initiatives by analysing asset data and collaborating across the Department to support long-term ITS asset management.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
- Asset Management Strategy – provide and support the establishment and improvement of best practice ITS asset management strategies, frameworks, and plans such as Asset Management Plans, Condition Assessment Methodologies, Performance Monitoring, Business Area Planning, Procurement Strategy and Business Cases.
- Business Planning – provide specialist input to business planning and business case development activities associated with asset management.
- Risk Management - provide specialist input to asset condition risk assessment processes and maintain asset condition risk registers.
- Analysis and Reporting - develop effective reporting on ITS field system, asset condition, performance, operation, and reliability to address department needs and requests. Develop and maintain effective performance management and reporting to ensure that contracted services aimed at maintaining ITS assets conform to specified requirements and that reporting addresses management and business needs.
Key Selection Criteria
The DTP is seeking a professional with strong skills in contract, financial, and operational management to support the delivery and performance of ITS maintenance contracts. In this role, you will oversee budgets, assess contractor claims, provide advice on asset management, and ensure compliance with OH&S requirements. Success in this role requires sound judgement, effective workload management, and the ability to deliver practical solutions that achieve business outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering ( Electrical or Electronic Engineering- desirable)
- Hands-on experience in delivery and/or maintenance ITS assets
- Management of budgets and third party contractors
- Experience in building the skills of other people in the areas of maintenance and its governance (desirable)
- Experience relevant to the accountabilities and capabilities of the role. (desirable)
