About the role
The Departmental Travel Officer oversees the day-to-day delivery of travel services across the Department of Transport and Planning, supporting staff through the travel request process and resolving traveller or supplier issues. The role manages travel reporting, identifies value-for-money improvements, and contributes to projects including system updates, contract transitions and policy development.

Position accountabilities
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a highly capable Departmental Travel Officer to support the effective management of the organisation’s travel operations. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining clear travel guidelines, processes and procedures that ensure consistency, compliance and a positive experience for departmental travellers. You will play a key role in resolving operational travel issues, applying sound judgement to balance contractual requirements with traveller needs and broader departmental objectives.


In this position, you will communicate specialist travel policies and concepts to a wide range of clients, staff and stakeholders, ensuring information is clear, accessible and aligned with organisational standards. You will prepare high-quality reports, briefs and correspondence on complex matters that influence program delivery and departmental operations. The role also requires undertaking detailed investigations into travel-related issues, analysing data and evidence to provide informed recommendations that support continuous improvement and risk mitigation.


The successful candidate will bring strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to manage complex issues and provide authoritative advice. You will demonstrate an ability to navigate competing priorities, work collaboratively across teams and apply a customer-focused approach while upholding departmental policies and expectations.

Qualifications and experience
Desirable
-    Previous experience in a similar role in a government context is desired (desirable).
