About the Role

The position Engineer – Geotechnical Design undertakes and coordinates geotechnical investigations, designs, and hazard risk management under supervision.  The position uses conceptual and analytical skills to resolve moderately complex geotechnical problems where policies, guidelines, and/or precedents are not readily available. The position provides geotechnical advice to key stakeholders in accordance with existing policies and procedures to influence outcomes.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Geotechnical Delivery: Engineer – Geotechnical Design considers and recommends geotechnical solutions, including delivering geotechnical design services on time and on budget under broad supervision.
  • Innovative Contributions: The incumbent has contributed expertise to their team by working on complex projects, undertaking complex technical investigations, and making recommendations for action based on their field of expertise.
  • Stakeholder Management: Effective working relationships with key clients and Engineering peers have been developed and effectively maintained.
  • Engineering Support: Support is provided to other Engineering Branches as needed.

 

Key Selection Criteria

The DTP is seeking a motivated professional with strong skills in project delivery, innovation, and continuous improvement. The role involves coordinating and guiding work activities, monitoring progress, and seeking opportunities to enhance outcomes through innovative ideas and collaboration. You will apply sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a foundational understanding of geotechnical investigation and design principles to support effective engineering solutions.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Civil/Geotechnical) (mandatory)
  • Drivers Licence (without any restriction which preclude the incumbent from performing the inherent requirements of the position and which cannot be reasonably accommodated by the Department) (mandatory)
  • Up to 2 years of experience in the civil/geotechnical engineering industry (desirable).

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification. Information provided to the Department of Transport and Planning will be treated in the strictest confidence consistent with the requirements of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. 

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
