About the Role

Reporting to the Team Leader - Structural Design, the Lead Engineer - Structural Design sits within Assets and Engineering division and is responsible for providing expert structural design and advice.

The role is responsible for working with the Team Leader - Structural Design in leading the technical capability development and uplift of the Structural Design team within the Design Services branch, and will involve technical training and capability development, and technical oversight of less experienced staff

The Lead Engineer – Structural Design is responsible for providing independent verification (proof engineering) of internal detailed structural design.

The Lead Engineer - Structural Design will provide expert advice in the field of structural engineering and associated construction.  They will be responsible for knowledge sharing, and capability building of staff within the Structural Design team.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Structural Design Delivery - The Lead Engineer - Structural Design ensures that high quality structural designs are delivered, and supports the Team Leader - Structural Design to deliver within timeframes and on budget.  The Lead Engineer - Structural Design is responsible for providing independent verification (proof engineering) of internal detailed structural design
  • Structural Design Capability Development - The Lead Engineer - Structural Design develops technical guidance and/or training to uplift the technical capability and provides leadership and guidance to others resulting in enhanced technical capability in relation to Structural design.
  • Trusted Advisor - The Lead Engineer - Structural Design has expertise in structural design and stakeholders’ trust and respect the advice and recommendations provided by the incumbent. 
  • Stakeholder Management - Effective relationships have been developed and maintained with customers and across DTP and stakeholder issues are well understood. In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.

With proven adaptability, a collaborative approach, and a focus on delivering positive community impact, you will play a key role in achieving organisational success

 

Engineering Skills

  • Bridge Design (various types including culverts) (Accomplished) - Advanced practitioners lead significant bridge design projects, including complex structures, applying comprehensive knowledge and experience to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions.
  • Level 3 Bridge inspections (Accomplished) - At the Accomplished level, practitioners lead components of Level 3 Bridge Inspections, demonstrating expertise in identifying and analysing complex structural issues. They contribute significantly to inspection planning and report writing.
  • Load rating of structures (Accomplished) - At the Accomplished level, practitioners lead complex load rating projects, demonstrating advanced analytical skills and problem-solving abilities. They are responsible for critical assessments and decision-making regarding structural safety.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current Professional Engineering Registration in the field of Structural engineering, as issued by the Victorian Business Licensing Authority.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering and relevant experience in Structural design and technology.
  • Extensive experience with primary responsibility for undertaking practical structural engineering design and analysis of simple structures and complex structures.
