About the Role

The Lead Road Investment Planner position sits within the Road Investment Planning Team as part of the Strategic Asset Management (Roads) Branch that has custodianship of the Victorian arterial road network. This role is part of a team that is accountable for the development, upkeep and promotion of tactical and strategic road asset investment strategies, and works closely with the Strategic Asset Management Team to ensure that strategies and performance objectives are delivered. The incumbent provides strategic input to the development of road asset strategies. The role is responsible for leading the development of program funding submissions for investments in sustainment of the road network and leading the provision of asset management advice for maintenance and renewals programs developed by asset stewards.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic asset management input to the development and upkeep of tactical and long-term strategic asset planning for the road network. Key road investment asset strategies for system, asset class and critical assets are in place.
  • Provide strategic asset management input for the development of funding submissions for investments into road network sustainment. Funding submissions are clear, comprehensive and reflect strategic priorities as articulated in asset strategies and express the priorities of the network. The funding submissions have been prepared collaboratively with Transport Services and asset stewards on time and to the expected quality.
  • Provide specialist advice to the prioritisation of investment in road maintenance and renewal programs. There is confidence that funds have been prioritised to the highest risk/impact areas.
  • Establish and maintain key relationships and communication channels for tactical input into asset strategies. Road asset strategies are informed from inputs across the Department and are being managed as living artefacts.

 

Key Selection Criteria

The DTP is seeking a professional with strong skills in strategic planning, critical thinking, and project delivery to align team objectives with organisational goals and ensure successful outcomes. The role requires the ability to resolve complex issues, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and foster a clear sense of purpose within the team. You will also build effective stakeholder relationships and deliver results that create meaningful community impact.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary engineering or asset management qualifications (desirable)
  • 7+ years of experience in asset management (desirable)
  • Experience working in a cross-functional and geographically dispersed organisation (desirable)
