About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Medical Review, this role provides expert support and medical advice on complex medical review cases escalated by the Medical Review team and other stakeholders, in accordance with the Assessing Fitness to Drive guidelines, relevant policies, procedures, and legislation. The role also plays a key part in identifying emerging trends, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and delivering education to internal and external stakeholders.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Assess and manage complex medical review cases, applying the Assessing Fitness to Drive guidelines, legislation, policies, and procedures to determine fitness to drive. Provide expert advice and prepare accurate documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and analyse key trends from correspondence and phone inquiries to inform process improvements and build team capability through innovative solutions.
  • Influence and negotiate with stakeholders to promote consistent, fair engagement and drive improved outcomes for both customers and the business.
  • Support continuous improvement and workplace change by contributing to the development and implementation of innovative practices, while fostering a culture of ongoing business improvement
  •  Build strong partnerships with stakeholders and management, providing recommendations to mitigate risks and improve business practices through trend analysis. Deliver stakeholder education under general supervision.

Key Selection Criteria

The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a skilled Medical Case Manager to manage and assess complex medical review cases in line with legislation, policies, and the Assessing Fitness to Drive guidelines. This role plays a key part in ensuring that decisions are made with a focus on safety, fairness, and consistency, while supporting improved outcomes for both customers and the business.

In this role, you will apply your medical expertise and sound understanding of policy and legislation to assess complex cases and make well-informed decisions, even in situations where clear precedents do not exist. Your ability to research and analyse emerging trends, standards, and practices will inform your work and contribute to ongoing service improvement.

You will also engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, using your communication and negotiation skills to influence outcomes and ensure decisions are supported and understood. Your strong analytical and problem-solving abilities will help identify business risks and shape recommendations that support continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), registered to work in Victoria and experience relevant to the role
  • If a driver licence is held, it must be current and valid, free of serious driving convictions for a period of time specified in the relevant regulations
