About the Role

Reporting to the Manager – Pavement Design, the Senior Engineer - Pavement Design sits within Assets and Engineering division and is responsible for undertaking the procurement, investigation, design and delivery of pavement design projects within the DTPs pipeline of works.

The role’s responsibilities will support the structural design of flexible and rigid pavements, rehabilitation and maintenance treatments, structural overlays using mechanistic procedures, stabilisation treatments, pavement and surfacing conditions, and the selection of surfacing treatments, under limited supervision.

The Senior Engineer – Pavement Design will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate project delivery and discuss pavement related queries in a consultative manner.

Additionally, the role will support the capability development of less experienced pavement engineers and contribute to a culture of continual process improvement under the guidance of the Manager – Pavement Design and Specialist Engineer – Pavement Design.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities 

  • Pavement Design Delivery: Utilises working knowledge of pavement designs and rehabilitation treatments to lead the investigation, analysis, design and reporting of a broad range of pavement related matters. Ensures that high quality pavement designs are delivered and supports the Manager – Pavement Design to deliver within timeframes and on budget.
  • Data Analysis and Modelling: Undertakes technical analysis and modelling to utilise site specific data from environmental, traffic, geotechnical, and pavement surface investigations, and prepares pavement design reports that capture these influences in design.
  • Communication: Clearly and succinctly conveys specialist concepts that influence clients, staff and stakeholders, and negotiates successful project outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Develops and maintains effective relationships with customers across DTP and understands and addresses stakeholder issues.
  • Capability Development: Applies theoretical knowledge in pavement engineering to contribute to a culture of innovation and continual process improvement. Supports the Manager – Pavement Design in the delivery of initiatives that build team capability in pavement design.

 

Key Selection Criteria

The DTP is seeking a skilled professional with expertise in project delivery, critical thinking, and stakeholder management to join our team. The ideal candidate will excel in coordinating tasks, resolving complex issues, and delivering impactful communication tailored to diverse audiences. Engineering expertise in pavement evaluation, treatment design, and new pavement design is essential, alongside a commitment to building strong relationships and driving value for stakeholders.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (mandatory)
  • Relevant experience in pavement design and technology.
  • Working towards Registration as a Professional Engineer in the field of civil engineering, as issued by the Victorian Business Licensing Authority.
