About the role
The Senior Signals Engineer provides expert advice on the design, operation and optimisation of Victoria’s traffic signal and traffic management systems to ensure the arterial road network is safe, efficient and compliant with departmental standards. The role delivers complex signal services, analyses technical issues, and collaborates with senior stakeholders to develop innovative solutions using transport analytics, intelligent transport systems and emerging technologies. It also involves providing technical leadership, mentoring staff, engaging stakeholders, and contributing to guidelines and service delivery improvements while supporting a collaborative and high-performing team culture aligned with departmental values.

Qualifications and experience
A tertiary qualification in engineering, data analytics, computer science, or a related discipline is mandatory, along with moderate experience in traffic engineering and data analytics or computer programming. The role requires the ability to travel within the state for site inspections and a valid driver’s licence without restrictions that would prevent performing the inherent requirements of the position or cannot be reasonably accommodated by the Department.

Pre-employment checks and employment conditions
All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification.
