About the Role

Reporting to the Lead Structural Drafter, the Technical Officer – Structural Design position sits within the Assets and Engineering division and is responsible for undertaking concept and detailed design drafting of structures and geotechnical works under supervision, and providing advice on constructability.

As part of the role, the Technical Officer – Structural Design will be required to build and maintain relationships through collaboration on projects.

The Technical Officer - Structural Design will be responsible for providing advice in the field of structural drafting and associated construction under general functional supervision. They will assist in developing standard documentation and practices relating to the drafting of bridges and other road related structures, and geotechnical drafting requirements.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities 

  • Structural Drafting Delivery - The Technical Officer – Structural Design delivers high quality drafting of concept and detailed designs, and supports the Lead Structural Drafter to deliver within timeframes and on budget
  • Capability Development – Applies knowledge in structural drafting to contribute to a culture of innovation and process improvement. Supports the Lead Structural Drafter in the delivery of initiatives that build team capability in structural drafting.
  • Trusted Advisor – Exercise technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to resolve a broad range of bridge construction matters during the design and the construction phases of a project under general functional supervision.
  • Team Culture - Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive team culture through implementation of initiatives that build team and stakeholder capability.

 

Key Selection Criteria

The DTP is seeking a motivated professional with strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and project delivery skills. The role involves collaborating with colleagues, engaging effectively with stakeholders, and maintaining a strong customer focus to deliver high-quality outcomes. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate proficiency in structural drafting, producing accurate and compliant drawings in line with departmental standards and project specifications.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Structural drafting (mandatory).
  • Relevant experience in structural design and technology (desirable).
