Transport Services is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.

Barwon South West Grampians is a Division within Transport Services, and is responsible for the statewide portfolio of road maintenance, delivered by the team in Maintenance Operations.

 

About the Role

The Traffic Disruption Officer supports Maintenance Teams by processing road access requests (MOAs) for planned and unplanned roadworks, events, or incidents. The role involves timely assessments that consider other scheduled transport activities and the broader impact on the road network.

Key responsibilities include assisting teams across Regional and Metropolitan Melbourne with inspections, pre-season preparations, tender development, and on-site scoping. The officer also supports the Senior Disruptions Lead through reporting and process improvement efforts.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Provided expert traffic and transport management advice for roadworks, keeping within established traffic engineering practice, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Applied problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues, and provided expert knowledge, advice and support as required to deliver projects with reduced disruption impacts.
  • Exercised professional judgement to undertake complex site impact analysis, taking into account the network impacts of network disruptions.
  • Exercised independent judgement to provide timely responses to Maintenance contractor enquiries and roadwork permit applications.
  • Developed and maintained strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
  • Used negotiation and influencing skills to formulate options and reach successful outcomes for customers while mitigating risk and reducing any negative impacts on the safe and efficient operation of the road network.
  • Promoted and supported safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.
  • In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities

Qualifications and Experience

Desirable

  • Experience in creating and implementing Traffic Guidance Schemes.
  • Appropriate qualifications in Civil/Transport engineering or relevant experience.
  • Asset management experience
  • Experience in review and reporting of traffic and transport interruptions resulting of planned or unplanned roadworks
