About the role
The Lead Engineer, Network Interface and Assurance provides expert engineering and transport advice to support major infrastructure projects delivered by the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) and other delivery partners on behalf of the Department of Transport and Planning. The role works closely with project teams, delivery agencies and stakeholders to make sure projects protect the integrity of Victoria’s transport network and meet required standards.
In this role, the Lead Engineer reviews complex projects, identifies risks or gaps, and provides clear advice and recommendations to guide decisions. They influence project teams and governance groups to ensure quality outcomes while balancing cost, time and construction constraints. Success in the role means projects are delivered in a way that protects the transport network, meets community needs and improves the quality and consistency of network assurance processes.
What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria)
You’re someone who:
- Understands planning, design and delivery of major road projects, ensuring they meet standards, integrate well with the transport network and consider long-term value.
- Has the ability to assess project proposals and design options, analyse risks and feasibility, and make sound professional decisions.
- Has strong ability to negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes that support the Department, Government and community.
- enjoys working collaboratively with teams across the organisation and contributes to a positive team culture while helping progress project issues.
- Organises work effectively, understands transport network challenges, and communicates clearly through well-written reports, briefings and presentations.

Qualifications and experience
Desirable
- A tertiary qualification in engineering, project management, planning or related discipline.
- Demonstrated professional development or additional qualifications in road design and/or construction.
Pre-employment checks and employment conditions
