Transport Service is a Group within Department of Transport & Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.
About the role
This is a Fixed term role for 24 months
The Program Officer is a position within Gippsland and Capital Delivery and is responsible for ensuring projects are ready for delivery. The Program Officer develops plans for projects and work packages, oversee effective project governance and assurance processes and manage program risk. Liaising with key internal and external stakeholders throughout the lifespan of a project to ensure its successful delivery.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
You will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:

Continuous Improvement – The incumbent has contributed to identifying current and emerging issues and opportunities and has assisted the team to make continuous improvements to processes and/or efficiency.

Problem Solving – The incumbent has participated in problem solving activities, including contributing ideas and maintaining a solutions-based approach to issues.

Project Coordination – The incumbent has effectively coordinated projects of defined scope under guidance, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget and to specified, established, and recognised work procedures and quality standards. Reports have been prepared and supervisors have been made aware of the status of projects. Any issues identified have been reported and escalated appropriately.

Customer centred – The incumbent has represented Department in a professional and customer centred manner when interacting with clients and stakeholders, effectively resolving, escalating, or redirecting issues as necessary.

Promote and support safe, inclusive, and flexible team operations.

In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.
Key Selection Criteria
We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates foundational capability in innovation and continuous improvement, contributing ideas to enhance work effectiveness and maintaining quality under pressure. You will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve issues by interpreting guidelines or analysing available information, consulting as needed. Strong foundational project delivery skills are essential, including task prioritisation and accurate record-keeping. The role also requires an applied focus on customer satisfaction, with a drive for continuous improvement and innovation. Finally, you will value partnering and co-creation, supporting collaborative processes with clear communication and a solid understanding of co-design principles.

We are looking for someone who demonstrates flexibility and adaptability by responding quickly to changing priorities and working comfortably with cross-organisational teams.
