The Department of Transport & Planning brings together key transport, planning, land, precinct and policy functions within a single department to create thriving places and connected communities. Together with our key agencies we are responsible for planning, building, operating, and maintaining Victoria’s transport and land use planning system for use by all. Network, Design and Integration is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for the delivery of transport priorities through the development and delivery of an integrated pipeline of projects and support the Major Transport Infrastructure Program. The Project Integration (MRPV) Branch is responsible for ensuring major infrastructure projects are developed and delivered by the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority (MTIA) to meet the Department’s transport system requirements regarding safety, functionalit, and long-term benefits for all transport users.

About the Role

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months within the DTP Project Integration team, specifically in the Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) stream. The role may involve managing part or all phases of a project’s development, delivery, and handover.

Reporting to the Manager of Project Integration, the Project Manager Coordination is responsible for delivering expert advice and making informed decisions regarding project scope, governance, change management, and technical requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Serving as the key liaison between MRPV and a broad range of stakeholders within the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), the role ensures effective oversight and coordination. This collaboration helps meet project goals and broader transport network outcomes, ultimately supporting the successful integration of new infrastructure into Victoria’s transport system and delivering substantial economic benefits across the state.

Position Outcomes /Accountabilities 

  • Manage and support the development/delivery/transition of significant, multi- disciplinary, integrated, complex high value and high-risk major infrastructure projects and programs ensuring project objectives and benefits are delivered.
  • Liaise with delivery agencies and stakeholders to resolve complex interface issues that may impact the effective development, delivery and transition of major infrastructure projects and programs.
  • Ensure the delivery of investment programs align with DTP benefit management framework.
  • Effective monitoring of the allocated projects to ensure that infrastructure provided does not compromise safety, existing service delivery and is adequate to support planned future network requirements.

Key Selection Criteria 

In this role, you will use your deep understanding of transport planning and construction to ensure projects meet performance standards, align with Government strategies, and deliver value through whole-of-life cost optimisation. You'll work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders to navigate project complexities, assess options, and support decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

You will bring strong leadership qualities and a commitment to fostering a positive team culture. Your ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, will be essential in preparing project documentation and representing DTP’s interests in negotiations. You'll be skilled in managing multiple priorities, developing project plans, and ensuring deliverables are met on time and within scope.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong conceptual and analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills. A sound understanding of Victoria’s transport network and infrastructure challenges across all modes is essential, along with the confidence to work independently and exercise professional judgement in a complex environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, project management, planning or related discipline

Role Spefic Requirements 

  • A current and valid driver’s license is required.
  • May involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel.
  • You may be required to undertake a medical and other safety compliance requirement.
  • You will be required to work across a number of locations and projects to support Network Design and Integration
