About the role
The External Works Engineer – Gippsland provides expert advice on road and bridge designs to developers, councils and DTP teams to ensure third-party road and bridge works on the arterial road network are safe, compliant with DTP standards, and meet community expectations. The role independently manages the review and endorsement of designs for development-related connections and changes to the arterial road network, oversees construction outcomes to ensure quality and compliance and finalises asset handovers.
Key responsibilities include undertaking and coordinating design reviews, monitoring project progress, managing risks, guiding and instructing surveillance staff, resolving construction issues, and ensuring third parties and contractors meet technical, safety and permit requirements. The role also supports continuous improvement and promotes safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering or Project Management (mandatory), along with an Australian Driver’s Licence (mandatory).
- 5+ years’ experience in construction or project management, with experience reviewing or developing detailed road designs.
- 5+ years’ experience in road construction, including traffic management associated with road construction.
