About the role
The Planner helps deliver the Minister for Planning’s statutory planning responsibilities and facilitate key Victorian Government planning priorities, and projects. The position is part of a professional team in the Gippsland region that provides high-quality advice and service to the Minister for Planning and other key stakeholders, including Government agencies and local governments.

It requires strong project delivery skills to plan, coordinate, and monitor outcomes while adapting to shifting priorities. Building trusted stakeholder relationships, communicating with clarity and impact, and fostering collaboration across teams are also key to achieving results and driving positive outcomes.

Position accountabilities
This role delivers statutory planning services to support the Minister’s responsibilities, including assessing permit applications, scheme amendments, and priority projects. It involves preparing clear and timely reports, advice, and correspondence, while proactively managing approvals to meet deadlines. Success requires applying planning expertise to complex initiatives, building strong relationships with government and stakeholders, and contributing to a collaborative, culturally safe, and outcomes-focused team environment.
Qualifications and experience
- Qualification in urban planning and/or related field (mandatory).
- Knowledge of significant government policies and strategies on land use planning and legislation (desirable).
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in statutory and strategic land use planning, together with a sound understanding of regional planning and regional development issues (desirable).

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification.
