About the role
Fixed term position to 1 December 2027 – Location based in Gippsland
The Project Officer plays a vital role in shaping Gippsland’s future transport system to support a prosperous, connected and liveable Victoria. The role works collaboratively across the transport portfolio, government agencies, Regional Partnerships and local councils to drive integrated land use and transport planning. It leads the East Bairnsdale Strategic Transport and Planning Investigation, addressing challenges such as limited active transport links, congestion, safety risks and unreliable freight movements. The position also oversees the Drouin–Warragul Arterial Road Network Planning Project to guide long-term growth and identify priority transport needs.
Position accountabilities
- Provide strategic planning advice by contributing analysis to major projects such as the Bairnsdale Planning Study and Drouin–Warragul Arterial Road Network Planning Project. Prepare clear briefings, reports and recommendations.
- Engage with key stakeholders including regional industries, government agencies, freight operators, local councils and communities to support integrated transport planning.
- Collaborate across the Transport Services Group and government to align transport and land-use planning, meet project timelines and deliver regional initiatives. Support the Department’s Inclusion Strategy through meaningful engagement with Aboriginal communities.
- Monitor emerging transport trends and provide advice to keep transport plans current and responsive to changes in demand, technology and community expectations.

Key Selection Criteria
Success in this role requires someone who can translate strategic priorities into practical plans, deliver projects effectively, and think critically about complex issues while anticipating future needs and technological opportunities. The role demands strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to engage stakeholders, tailor communication, and co-create solutions that improve service outcomes. Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
- Experience in project management.
- Full Victorian Driver’s Licence (without any restriction which preclude the incumbent from performing the inherent requirements of the position and which cannot be reasonably accommodated by the Department)
Desirable
- Experience in transport planning with engineering exposure.
