Social Policy

The Social Policy (SP) group brings together social policy expertise and includes management of the Multicultural Affairs portfolio. SP is responsible for advising the Premier and Cabinet on the education, justice, health, families, fairness and housing, and community, security and emergency management portfolios, and supporting the Minister for Multicultural Affairs to oversee the portfolio.

About the Role

The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) is seeking an enthusiastic and talented VPS3 Grants Program Support Officer to join its Multicultural Affairs branch. 

As a Grants Program Support Officer, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality programs designed to support Victoria’s diverse multicultural communities.

This role will contribute to the implementation and oversight of key Multicultural Affairs initiatives working across a range of grant programs designed to support multicultural communities and initiatives to be implemented in response to Victoria’s Multicultural Review recommendations. This role will also support other program areas within the Multicultural Affairs portfolio at peak times.

The successful candidate will demonstrate sound program and grants management experience, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills to support the delivery of programs and initiatives under the Multicultural Affairs portfolio. Delivery of this work will rely on your administrative and business systems skills and require effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

The third day of attendance will be agreed with the Manager on commencement.

Key selection criteria

  1. Project Delivery: Demonstrates experience supporting the delivery and administration of grant programs and initiatives with a proven ability to coordinate processes, track progress, ensure compliance, and manage respective data.
  2. Written communication: Ability to prepare briefs, letters, emails, and reports using clear, concise, and grammatically correct language; ensures written communications contain necessary information to achieve their purpose; uses appropriate style and formats. 
  3. Problem-solving: Seeks all relevant information for problem solving; investigates and probes for the facts; liaises with stakeholders; analyses issues from different perspectives and draws sound inferences from information available; identifies and proposes workable solutions to problems.
  4. Interpersonal and collaborative working skills: Demonstrates a strong understanding of the needs and wants of stakeholders and their impact on service delivery; tailors communications according to audience and/or audience preference; builds trust and rapport with others; sets common goals through a high degree of empathy; displays willingness to share responsibility with peers, external partners, and community, in the delivery of work and outcomes.
  5. Self-management: Proactively plans and prioritises work to ensure outcomes are achieved; resists the temptation to react immediately without taking time to think things through; uses strengths to contribute constructively and consciously manages the impact of own weaknesses; anticipates own reactions to situations and prepares accordingly. 

Desirable requirements

Sector knowledge and experience: demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and/or subject matter expertise in multicultural affairs is desirable and will be advantageous.

Experience with Grants: experience with Grants360 or similar grants management software is advantageous.
