Manager, Monitoring and reporting – VPS6 – Ongoing

What you’ll do

The Manager, Monitoring and Reporting, leads one of two teams in the Agency Performance Branch responsible for:

  • Delivering cross-departmental capability reviews, designed to assess the readiness of VPS agencies to deliver on future public sector requirements and challenges.
  • Monitoring and reporting on sector performance on integrity, capability, diversity, equity and inclusion and other related obligations.
  • Advice and sharing of best practice to improve public sector efficiency and effectiveness, integrity and capability.

The role requires a strong passion for and commitment to public service and exceptional written, analytical, conceptual and stakeholder engagement skills. The role also requires excellent people management skills and a strong commitment to fostering a positive, high-performance team culture.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provide strategic, evidence-based policy advice to the Commissioner, senior executives and Special Minister of State, identifying risks and implications.
  2. Lead performance monitoring and capability reviews of VPS agencies, identifying current and future capability needs.
  3. Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across government and the public sector.
  4. Lead the development and quality assurance of high-quality reports, briefs, submissions and policy advice on complex and sensitive issues.
  5. Lead and develop a high-performing team, contribute to Branch governance and capability, and promote a values-based, safe and inclusive workplace.

  1. Flexibility and adaptability: Ability to respond positively to changing priorities, identify innovative approaches and build support for new ways of working.
  1. Critical thinking and problem solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to consider multiple perspectives and develop practical, sustainable solutions.

Experience and qualifications

The successful candidate will have all the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in public policy or related disciplines and/or significant experience in public policy in a government context.
  • Exceptional written skills.
  • Experience in managing a team and in similar leadership positions.

One or more of the following will be highly regarded:

  • Public sector experience working in policy or strategy.
  • Experience in working in a consulting or government advisory services environment.
