Title: Manager Education, Social Policy Group
About the Role
This role leads a team within the Education Branch of the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Reporting to the Director, Education Branch, you will lead and manage a team and provide authoritative and expert advice to the Premier, Secretary and senior executives on policy, programs, and issues relating to the branch’s portfolios. In this role, you will be part of a high performing and supportive team, reviewing policy proposals, undertaking policy analysis, and assessing the impact of government decisions and actions. You will also work closely with other key departments and areas within DPC.
This position requires you to deal with sensitive issues in a confidential manner and with a high degree of accuracy in short time frames. The role additionally requires a proactive self-starter with a good understanding of government processes and an ability to work in a complex, sensitive and fast paced environment. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, with demonstrated strong policy, analytical and communication skills coupled with an ability to influence senior stakeholders and effectively manage and be a supportive team leader.
Key Accountabilities
- Proactively build and maintain effective relationships with key senior stakeholders in other branches within DPC and with other government departments.
- Actively participate in and encourage others to support a positive organisational culture, and business and performance excellence.
- Identify, lead, provide strategic input into, and represent the Branch in the management of priority projects, and specific critical issues relating.
- Assist the Director in the management and strategic direction of the branch including planning, work flow and resourcing, in a high pressure, changing, complex and sensitive environment.
About You
We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience from the following criteria:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, including supporting the conditions for an engaged and high performing team and aligning the team with the organisational values and goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to commission and edit complex briefs, ensuring clear, concise and grammatically communication which meets its purpose and audiences’ needs.
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to identify practical solutions to complex problems.
- Demonstrated experience providing authoritative, high quality and timely advice on program and/or project design, implementation and evaluation in a dynamic and complex environment.
