The Energy, Resources and Environment Branch of the Department of Premier and Cabinet is recruiting for a highly motivated policy adviser. Our branch advises the Premier on a broad range of policy initiatives and major projects, and this role is an excellent opportunity to work in centre of the Victorian Government in high profile and challenging portfolios.

The successful applicant will be part of a team of policy advisers in a fast-moving environment and play an important policy analysis, advice and coordination role. The position sits within the area of the branch that shadows the agriculture, climate action, environment and water portfolios. It requires policy analysis and coordination experience, strong communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills, sound conceptual and analytical skills, and the ability to readily adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.

About you

As our ideal candidate you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and co-ordination processes to inform the development of policies and programs within relevant portfolios.
  • Strong written communications that contain necessary information to achieve their purpose, including an understanding of the audience and how written materials may be interpreted.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills, with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, provide advice on processes and policies, and work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound conceptual and analytical skills, strong initiative and a ‘can do’ approach to identify issues and develop appropriate solutions to solve problems and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ability to readily adapt to changing circumstances, accepting changed priorities without undue discomfort and embracing ambiguity, recognises the merits of different options and acts accordingly.

Desirable requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be an advantage
  • Experience working on agriculture, environment, climate action or water policy
