The Delivery and Strategy Branch is seeking to recruit an effective, talented and passionate individual to the position of Policy Officer in the Strategy team. The Delivery and Strategy Branch reports to the Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and works across government to quickly analyse and identify solutions to priority policy and delivery issues. The Strategy team works on high priority projects on a range of policy and operational topics.
In this role you will support the Branch to deliver projects including through analysis, policy advice, data analytics, project management, stakeholder consultation, and presenting high impact analysis to senior decision makers. Your work will contribute to advice to the Premier, the Secretary and senior DPC executives.
You will have the opportunity to work on a breadth of policy and delivery issues across government, while building and maintaining productive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders. This role requires a proactive self-starter with a passion for public policy, a good understanding of government processes and an ability to work in a complex, sensitive and fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong policy, analytical and communication skills, and work effectively in a team environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Policy advice and development: Under direction, contribute to complex research projects and analyses and provide advice to the Premier, the Secretary and senior officers on the policy and strategic implications of initiatives of departments and agencies.
- Communication: Provide clear, succinct and solution focused written (including the development of PowerPoint slides) and verbal briefings on a range of sensitive issues to a high-quality standard within tight timeframes for the Premier, Secretary and senior executives.
- Stakeholder engagement: Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders to progress government policy and priorities, including close liaison with other DPC Branches and across government.
- Time management: Manage competing priorities and deliver outputs within agreed timeframes.
- Culture: Actively contribute to a positive organisational culture, to continuous improvement, and to business and performance excellence.
- Flexibility: Undertake other duties as required, including working flexibly on emerging priorities of the Branch and across the broader Department.
Key selection criteria
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills, initiative and a ‘can do’ approach to identifying issues and providing strategic advice on policy and program development and/or delivery.
- Sound knowledge of the processes, policies and procedures within government and understanding of public sector accountability. Experience co-ordinating advice across government and / or central agencies is valued
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to confidently and concisely convey complex ideas, data and other information in a clear and engaging manner in briefs, submissions, reports, graphs and PowerPoint presentations.
- Strong time and task management skills, focusing on outcomes and delivering within available resources and timelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels and from different backgrounds and organisations.
This role is a Fixed term, Full-Time position until 30/06/2027.
Mandatory requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a relevant discipline.
Desirable requirements
- Experience in data analysis and/or data visualisation.
