Security Operations Branch
The Security Operations Branch’s key role is to manage and co-ordinate the security operations for the Office of the Governor. The unit’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversight and co-ordination of security including monitor alarm and CCTV systems and responding to security related issues for the Office of the Governor.
- Management of Government House security systems, equipment, peripherals and monitoring for the Office of the Governor.
- Working closely with Victoria Police to manage the security environment and functions for the Office of the Governor.
Duties
- Perform day-to-day security tasks which support the operations of the Office of the Governor, including monitoring of security systems, liaison with Victoria Police, planning and implementing security overlays for functions and events, risk management and incident support on Government House grounds under minimal direction.
- Provide security assistance, authoritative advice and management reports to the Manager, Security Operations and prepare security event plans and risk assessment regarding events, ceremonial and official functions, including major events such as Open Day.
- Administer both the preventative maintenance and reactionary maintenance programs for any security system or equipment at Government House, including initial assessment and troubleshooting of any issues prior to escalation to technical specialists.
- Contribute to delivery of security related projects and the development and documentation of threat and risk assessments, site operational plans, policy and procedure.
- Understand and comply with all health, safety and risk management policies and procedures of the Office of the Governor and take all reasonable care that any actions or omissions do not affect the health and safety of others.
- Perform as a member of the Office of the Governor any other duties as directed by the Official Secretary or delegate.
Key selection criteria
- Demonstrated experience in a policing and/or security related industry with sound knowledge of and delivery of security requirements for buildings, events, incident management and personal safety and security in a confidential environment.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of security systems, equipment and devices, such as access control and CCTV.
- Sound communication (both written and oral), diplomacy, negotiation and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on understanding, assessing and responding to organisational needs in a positive, friendly and efficient manner whilst managing expectations.
- Sound analytical, problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive situations in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
- Proven ability to self-manage, work collaboratively with others and have a flexible approach with an ability to function effectively under pressure and to tight timelines.
- Demonstrated administrative experience with an emphasis on organisational, project and time management skills with excellent attention to detail.
Desirable requirement
- A relevant tertiary qualification such as Diploma of Security and Risk Management is desirable but not mandatory.
Other relevant skills.
- Knowledge of contract management processes
- Experience in Project Management
- High level of competence in MS Office suite, intranet, internet and similar application and databases.
Key points to note.
As the Office of the Governor Security Team operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, this position may on occasion be required to work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, particularly during functions and events.
