The Financial Reporting Group
The Financial Reporting Group (FRG) is responsible for managing the preparation and delivery of the financial reporting aspects of key DTF products. These include the annual Budget Papers, Annual Financial Report for the State of Victoria, Mid-Year Financial Report, Quarterly Financial Reports and Budget Update as well as monthly financial management reports on progress against the annual budget.
FRG also manages and supports the State’s financial reporting framework and whole-of-state financial information management systems, supporting financial reporting across the Victorian public sector. In addition, it provides expert advice on accounting and financial reporting issues to support informed government decision-making and ensures the State meets its parliamentary and statutory reporting obligations.
FRG comprises two teams – Consolidated Reporting & Analysis (CRA) and Accounting Policy.
This role will be with the Consolidated Reporting and Analysis team within the broader group.
About the role
Financial Analyst, CRA is responsible for supporting the production of DTF’s key financial publications including the consolidation of financial data and its reporting and undertaking detailed financial analysis on Whole of Government / General Government Sector results and providing advice.
Key selection criteria
- Consolidated reporting and analysis: Demonstrated ability to use financial management systems and Microsoft Excel to contribute to consolidation, reporting and analysis of budget estimates and financial actual data
- Financial skills: Strong numerical skills, and experience in budgeting and financial accounting and reporting including an understanding of government's key fiscal aggregates and the impact of transactions
- Communication: Ability to convey ideas and information demonstrating an understanding of the target audience and the objectives of the communication, ensuring communication achieves desired outcomes
- Deliver solutions/continuous improvement: A demonstrated ability to question processes related to own work and the ability to articulate the proposed improvements/solutions with the manager
- Leadership/capability development: The demonstrated capacity to take ownership of own tasks, delivering outcomes with relatively little supervision, ability to share knowledge on specialist concepts to colleagues and stakeholders and taking some responsibility for building the capability and flexibility of self and colleagues
- Relationships/teamwork: The ability to build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders, cooperate and work well with others in pursuit of team goals, collaborate and seek opportunities to make a broader contribution
Mandatory / Desirable qualifications
- Holds an accounting or finance-related academic qualification
- CPA / CA membership or working towards will be highly considered
