About us
The Essential Services Commission is Victoria’s independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries. The commission’s functions include:

- undertaking reviews and providing advice to Ministers on a range of economic and regulatory matters

About the role
The Head of Architecture provides pragmatic, business aligned leadership across enterprise, solution, data, integration and technology architecture at the commission. The role helps the organisation make better technology decisions by translating business strategy, regulatory needs and operational challenges into clear options, practical target states and sound design decisions.
This role is central to improving technology outcomes across the commission. It will build trusted relationships with business areas, improve alignment between business managed and central IT solutions, reduce risk and duplication, and establish architecture practices that are practical, proportionate and able to be adopted.
The Head of Architecture partners closely with executives, business leaders, project teams and vendors to shape options, explain trade offs, support procurement and delivery decisions, and strengthen the commission’s architecture capability. The role combines strategic thinking with hands on solution design, working through options and recommending pragmatic approaches that balance value, risk, speed and sustainability.
This role provides an opportunity to apply and extend your expertise, work collaboratively across the organisation, and contribute to outcomes that support fair, reliable and accessible essential services for Victorian consumers.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
