Paralegal / Project Administrator
Date: 15 Jun 2026
Location: Melbourne, VIC, AU, 3000
Company: VicGov People Careers
About us
The Essential Services Commission is Victoria’s independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries. The commission’s functions include:
- making regulatory decisions with respect to prescribed industries (including price determinations, licensing, customer protection and access disputes).
- undertaking reviews and providing advice to Ministers on a range of economic and regulatory matters.
- administering the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
About the role
Join and support a high performing legal team with the systems, processes and delivery that keep it running. The Paralegal/Project Administrator plays a key role in supporting the in-house Legal team within the Governance, Legal, Operations and Engagement division, providing project, coordination and operational support across the breadth of the team's work.
This is a busy in-house environment where a lot happens, and no two days are the same. One day you are actioning an FOI document review, the next you are improving how legal matters get triaged and flow, the next you are reviewing law firm proposals and reporting your findings to decision makers, and another day you are triaging the varied queries your colleagues need legal support on. You will work closely with the General Counsel, Principal Lawyers and internal clients, bringing a practical, get it done approach to everything you touch.
This role provides the opportunity to develop your skills, work collaboratively across the organisation, and contribute to outcomes that support fair, reliable and accessible essential services for Victorian consumers.
Key accountabilities
In this role, you will:
- Support the provision of legal advice to the commission across energy, water, the Port of Melbourne, local councils and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
- Take responsibility for tracking, actioning and delivering internal team projects.
- Coordinate and assist the General Counsel with the triage of new enquiries.
- Undertake legal review of commission and committee papers, publications and legal instruments.
- Assist in coordinating the use of external legal counsel and building strategic relationships across industry, government and the profession.
This is a full-time, ongoing role. The work location is 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available. This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.
Please refer to the Position Description for the principal functions and key selection criteria.
Applications for this position are due to close at 11:59pm on Monday, 29 June 2026.
